Coworker Focus: Rachel McClelland | Planet Shine

We caught up with our coworker Rachel about her business Planetshine. She has been member for sometime and has grown into a team using Society1 as their HQ.  Planetshines mission is to tell the stories of individuals, organisations and local communities making a positive difference in the world.

Here's what we found out when we delved a bit deeper into the world of Rachel and Planet Shine.....

Society1: Tell us a little bit about your business and what you do?

Rachel: Planet Shine is a media company, part film production and part media channel. Everything we do focuses on ethical living, sustainability and animal rights in a mainstream capacity.

Society1: What’s your story?

I started out in feature films, working with Michael Winterbottom (24 Hour Party People – the film production lived up to it’s name!!), moved into music videos for artists like Dizzee Rascal, Jay Z and Calvin Harris then decided I needed to follow my passion for animals and combine that with filmmaking

Society1: What are you working on at the moment?

Rachel: Three feature length documentaries/films We’re also working with a variety of brands (all of whom have a shared vision).

Society1: What’s the big Dream?

Rachel:  I’m very ambitious but that’s driven by my purpose. I want to make enough money to buy 70 farms so that I can help the farmers, rewild the land and save the animals.

Society1: Why did you choose Society1?

Rachel: It was supposed to be a temporary solution but we love the vibe so much that we decided to stay!

PlanetSHINE recently hosted SHINEfest2020. Lessons from lockdown.

A 3 day festival with an array of speakers to inspire you through lockdown.

In case you missed SHINEfest, you can still check out all of the incredible conversations and explore how we can reboot and restore humanity in harmony with the planet as the global lockdowns ease around the world.

Now Rachel, to the real you.......

Society1: Are you a hunter or a gatherer?

Rachel: Hunter – as mentioned, I’m very ambitious, have huge vision and I’m very independent.

Society1: What’s in your packed lunch?

Rachel: Usually something to do with hummus.

Society1: How do you relax?

Rachel: That’s a tough one and something I need to work at but relaxation usually comes as a reward for 6/7 days a week of work and some good boxing sessions, and in the form of a box set (Peakys and Outlander at the moment) and some red wine.

Society1: If you were to choose a super power, what would you choose?

Rachel: Can I have two?! I’d love to be able to fly and I want an invisible cloak!

Society1: Beach holiday / City Break?

Rachel: Staycation – I love being at home with my dog.

Society1: Money or kudos?

Rachel:  Money for the mission (as above)

Society1: Are you a bathroom singer?

Rachel:  More of a car singer!

Society1: If you were an animal what would you be?

Rachel: A wolf – I like being on my own but also like having my pack.

Society1: Who’s your inspiration?

Rachel: Romeo.

Society1: If you want to treat yourself, what do you do / have / buy?

Rachel: I love a massage and I’m partial to a Stella McCartney bag!

Society1: You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What colour would you be and why?

Rachel:  Red – I’ve always been drawn to it since being a tiny child.
