I’m, Mick, the Director of Xacom, a consultancy providing Project Control services across companies, organisations and markets. We specialise in Earned Value Management, Risk Management, Scheduling and Project Reviews to businesses of all sizes around the world, ultimately improving their bottom line by crafting creative solutions to their Project Control problems.
I started my career as an apprentice at BAE Systems in 1996 and have since worked for BMT Hi-Q Sigma, Thales and Airbus Helicopters. In 2011 I decided to go it alone and set up Xacom Limited. Past clients of Xacom have included National Grid, BAE Systems, Thales, Siemens, Lockheed Martin, Amec Foster Wheeler, Bombardier, UK MoD, Deltek, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and more recently Manchester Airport. I have a Bachelor of Honours in Business from The University of Central Lancashire, Preston, United Kingdom and various Engineering qualifications including a HNC and NVQ Level 3, and over 24 years of experience in the field. I am a Project Control nomad and have travelled the world while consulting.

Tell us about the project you are working on:
Mick: Re-branding the company – as part of the Boost Business Lancashire programme, Xacom was offered 12 weeks of mentoring support to help grow the company. After discussions it was decided that Xacom needed to focus on marketing and building the brand. Over the 12 weeks we went on a discovery of finding out our ‘Why’, Xacom had always focused on what we deliver rather than why we do what we do. We discovered that we provide solutions to improve organisations through consulting and training across our 3 core specialist areas (Earned Value Management, Scheduling and Risk Management). It has been a really challenging journey trying to balance the delivery of client work whilst working on the business but exciting to see the progressive development of the brand.
Now we have identified the brand we have sponsored the worlds largest Project Controls conference as Gold Partner which gives us access to some of the world’s largest organisations with Project Control support requirements. We are having animated marketing videos produced, a new brochure is available, our website is being developed further and we are getting more engagement on LinkedIn.
One last question, we have to ask… why do you like working at Society1?
Mick: Xacom has been based at Society 1 shortly after it opened in 2017, the beauty about the set up is it gives Xacom the potential to expand and contract as our market dictates. Beyond the business flexibility the space offers there is a significant social aspect, when starting out it was often a lonely experience working out of the office at home and sometimes difficult to focus the move to Society 1 has been a huge benefit in separating home life from the business and the team at Society 1 are always happy to have a catch up. The value, flexibility and team that run Society 1 have been and will be a instrumental part in the future of Xacom.
