Society1 June in Review

As months fly by it's worthwhile to take a moment to reflect on what has happened. There are so many things happening in the community at Society1 over the course of a month. It's really great to look back at take stock of our collective news and achievements.

Re-opening 1st June post lockdown

Start with the big one hey! We re-opened on the 1st June after lockdown. It really was horrible being closed in April and May. The building felt so empty without anyone here. Over the last year we have seen our community blossom. All the things we have worked hard to create, the felling the vibe wasn’t here. What did happen though was our community who normally see each other everyday became active online in our Society1 chat channels. If there is a win for lockdown, this is the one for us. We have started to connect more virtually. Virtual socials, coffees and slack chats. These will remain for the foreseeable. There are lots of people in our community who aren’t able to come in all the time so activating the online activity has been fab.

New group spaces on the top floor

This a job that has been on the list for a while but we simply haven’t been able to get to it. June has been a quiet month in the building so we have taken the opportunity and created some new group spaces on the top floor. NWDC have grabbed one already! They look and work great. Our space has developed really well, over time we have added and tweeked things. Each floor has it’s own personality and style. Everyone finds their spot and place they like to work. Not everyone likes the same after all!

New Gigabyte Internet Line

Solid digital infrastructure is a must for our members. This investment has been in the works for some time. It was great to have it live at the start of June for when we reopened. Fast, reliable and future proof internet for everyone using our services.

NWDC featured in the Creative Lancashires Artist in Residence series.

Creative Lancashire has run a series this year looking at local creatives and a their stories of lockdown and beyond. They recently featured our members Eleanor and Jill, North West Design Collective talking about their experiences setting up their Architects practice. This series has been really interesting to follow. Another Society1 member Rachel, We Are Bird, features in an earlier one too.

Mich Bondesio launched her new Podcast  – Creating Cadence

I know Mich has been planning this for some time. During lockdown, working from home she has brought her idea to fruition. The series sits alongside her monthly publication called Cadence. An online monthly publication full of thought provoking articles around creating better Cadence in our lives. I would highly recommend it and subscription is currently free

Northern Makers Club

Shane Davis, PTown Podcast has branched out into a new project the Northern Makers Club. A community of makers in the North of England. The ambition of the group is to inspire, motivate and bring northern makers together through video, photo, podcasts and events. If you enjoy making things as a business or a hobby this could be of interest.

Plastic Free July

PlanetSHINE are championing Plastic Free July. Our members PlanetSHINE, an ethical media platform championing sustainable living, are getting behind this fantastic initiative during July. I know this isn’t strictly June news but if we don’t share it now you wouldn’t know in time for July 🙂

Even though we are just awakening from lockdown June has been a busy month. We are looking forward to what July brings.

Check in next month for our next monthly review.
