We caught up with our member Alexandra Rees and her business with Younique Cosmetics. Alexandra is a key part of the Society1 team too. Involved in all things Society1 as well as her own business, makes for a busy time. Let’s hear more about her own business and a bit more about Alexandra too:
Here's what we found out when we delved a bit deeper into the world of Alexandra Rees.....
Society1: When did you start your business?
Alex: I started my business in May 2015 just as I was finishing my Paramedic Diploma as a side hobby to earn extra money.
Society1: What’s your story?
Alex: When I finished university (the first time) I dreamt of being my own boss but had no clue as to what my business would be! I’d always felt like a jack of all trades but master of none kinda person. So I fell into the corporate world and then onto the NHS. Never fazed by a new challenge, I love learning new skills and love starting new projects. When the opportunity came along to start a business that I could run around my full time job I thought it was the perfect option for me. My business has grown quickly and I now spend most of my time focused on that.
Society1: What inspires / drives you?
Alex: Working alongside like minded, gritty, determined individuals who put 100% in to carving out a life they want to live in not just exist in is really important to me and inspires me to work harder.
My major driving force is that having my own business allows me time freedom and the ability to earn depending on the effort I put in not at a level dictated to me by a line manager. In addition, I get to help and teach other women to do exactly the same which is hugely rewarding.
Society1: What’s the big dream?
Alex: To see my team growing and achieving their financial goals, to be well travelled and have a happy home.
Society1: Why did you choose to work at Society1?
Alex: To have people around to say hello and have a quick chat whilst you make a coffee is perfect for me. I find when I work from home its isolating and can be quite demotivating. The socials are a great chance to get to know people and everyone has such interesting and different business which in itself I find inspiring to be around. Often the best ideas come from innocuous conversations and that is the beauty of being surrounded by other entrepreneurs.
Society1: Tell us a bit more about Younique and what you do?
Alex: Take a look at my video: Are you ready to run with this?
Now to the real you.......
Society1: Are you a hunter or a gatherer?
Alex: I’d say a gatherer.
Society1: What’s in your packed lunch?
Alex: Spicy chicken salad wrap, diet coke and salt and vinegar crisps.
Society1: Whats your hangover cure?
Alex: Bacon butty, white toast, brown sauce and a huge vat of Tea!
Society1: Mac or PC?
Alex: I was brought into this world as a PC girl through and through! I fell into a MAC family and was brainwashed so now I’m Mac all the way and would never look back (don’t tell my dad!)
Society1: Beach holiday / City Break?
Alex: 100% Beach holiday sipping a Pina Colada
Society1: Money or kudos?
Alex: Money and no one knowing your name.
Society1: Are you a bathroom singer?
Alex: Definitely a car singer but not a bathroom singer!
Society1: If you had to change your name what would you change it to?
Alex: Jemima Puddleduck
Society1: Who’s your inspiration?
Alex: My Mum for sure for being strong intelligent and filling me with the notion that I can do anything!
Society1: If you want to treat yourself what do you do / have / buy?
Do: Spa day
Have: Prosecco with my friends
Buy: Online clothes shopping
Society1: You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What colour would you be and why?
Alex: Purple! It would match my hair!
